Abstract

This paper presents a plate-loaded folded monopole antenna mounted at a ground-plane edge and its characteristics examined by using FDTD calculation and experiments. The antenna is a folded monopole antenna composed of a rectangular plate and a shorted-end strip line, which is suitable for surface mounting on a PCB board. By examining the antenna with εr=2.6, it is shown that the element height and the longitudinal size of loaded desk are important parameters for determining antenna resonance frequency. It is also confirmed that the proposed antenna has a monopole-like radiation pattern. An antenna with helix-loaded element and high dielectric material is also discussed to obtain an electrical small one. As a result, a small antenna of which electrical size is a half of the air-loaded and no helix one is realized.
